Radio field emulation AIAD-X/Y 0,5-8 GHz

MTS radio field emulations for mobile communication. Brings reality into the test environment. With AIAD-type system solutions, any state of a radio environment can be generated dynamically. For the systems involved, it actually looks as if they are actively moving through a particular terrain formation or area. Neighbouring systems or interferers can also be integrated.


The Air Interface Adapter Series AIAD is our most flexible solution for the emulation of air interfaces. With the AIAD it is possible to emulate the in- and outputs according to the demands of the customer. The Air Interface Adapter allows the programme-controlled attenuation of X input signals to Y output signals simultaneously (configuration of the inputs (X) and outputs (Y) is freely selectable). The function is carried out by dividers and attenuators.

With the MTS AIAD you can emulate air interfaces for all conceivable scenarios. To avoid the influence from the live-net, the signals can be connected with cables directly from the different signal sources, as for example GSM or LTE+ base stations or signal generators etc. over the MTS AIAD to mobile devices.

Modern radio technologies such as IoT, TETRA, smart metering, MIMO, car-to-car, military communication and much more. always require new test solutions. Not so much the frequency range, but the classic structure in mobile communication from the transmitter side to the receiver side has been cancelled. Modern communication takes place not only vertically, but also horizontally. This enables a direct connection between different end devices without a network infrastructure. This means that applications, products or end devices of this type sometimes create their own networks, extend the network or forward information from neighbouring network participants.

The AIAD (Air Interface Adapter) can be used to reproduce any transmission situations, conditions or problem cases in the laboratory. This is possible because we do not operate the radio “over-the-air”, but exclusively by cable. All propagation possibilities and models are simulated in a network of cables, filters, splitters/combiners and attenuators etc. in the AIAD. This brings reality into the laboratory or test room. For the test objects, it really does look as if they are in a real radio environment.

Special features of AIAD devices
// A programmable attenuator is available in each path of the radio field emulation.
// By default, an attenuation setting of 0 to 95 dB is possible in 1 dB or 0.5 dB increments.
// Extended range from 0 to 122 dB for e.g. IoT applications possible.
// The damping levels are switched continuously and without interruption.
// The selected attenuation is identical in the uplink and downlink directions.
// Alternatively, partially meshed or asymmetrical networks are also possible (e.g. only 2 neighbouring cells can be addressed at any one time or only 2 ports are connected to all others).
